The Flying Companion Seminar is designed with the non-pilot in mind. Our goal is to help you become more comfortable in light aircraft and be able to have FUN!  This ground-school only course covers topics such as:

• Reading a sectional chart.
• Figuring out where you are and where you are going.
• Finding an airport.
• Overview of basic navigation.
• Finding the nearest airport on the GPS.
• How to use the radios.
• What to listen for and how to talk to Air Traffic Control.
• Special frequencies for emergencies, lost communications and weather.
• Airport frequencies and where to find them.




...so you can enjoy flying more and be a better Flying Companion.




The FCS will be a session at the 'Super Safety Seminar' being planned by the San Diego Aviation Safety Counselors and FAA FAAST Team on





September 11th, 2010





at the S.D. Air & Space Museum Annex

Gillespie Field.








Please note: while the SSS is a free event this FCS seminar will require a $59 registration fee for admission. Registration will be available online via the FAA via this link once the FAA has finalized their SSS schedule,  and payment must be sent to the SD99s.  Registration is tax deductible as the SD99s are a 501(c)3  organization.





Enrollment will be limited to 20 so the Companions can get the most out of this seminar, their personal interaction with the FCS staff and make it great learning experience. A minimum enrollment of 10 must be registered by Sept 1st, 2011 or the class may be cancelled.
